KFC has been taking the heat lately for its fried slabs of chicken stuffed with bacon and cheese. So, did IHOP decide to take one for the nutritionally challenged team? Or maybe the chain, known for its Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity, thinks it's a good idea to serve a five-layer carb-and-sugar concoction as part of a 1,250-calorie breakfast. It might be the latter. Glendale, Calif.-based IHOP just rolled out "five-layer Pancake Stackers" that consist of a layer of "crust-less cheesecake" in between two pancakes topped with fruit and whipped cream. It comes with bacon, hash browns and two eggs. A full nutritional breakdown wasn't available, but the calorie count alone is mind-numbing. It's a limited-time item, available until June 20, and can be yours for about $4.99. Restaurant execs say they're just giving folks what they want. Sure, if they're looking for type 2 diabetes. Commercials are coming, and I can't wait to see them. Think they'll carry a list of side effects and disclaimers? Naw. But they should.
