The Harlem Globetrotters are coming back to TV in another cartoon. "Toronto-based Cookie Jar is to become global licensing agent for the traveling troupe of merry basketball players," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now, I've watched plenty of Boomerang with my kids and have caught up with Scooby, Droopy Dog and Penelope Pit Stop. But one of the cartoons that lives most vividly in my brain (and not currently airing on Boomerang) was the super-groovy late-'70s Super Globetrotters cartoon (see the clip here). I didn't grow up in a big basketball household, but I still knew Curly and Meadowlark Lemon and really wanted to catch a Globetrotters game. Apparently, I've had plenty of chances over the years. According to the "official" Harlem Globetrotters Web site, the Globetrotters have played in more than 25,000 exhibition games, "entertaining everyone from presidents to popes." It's amazing to see that after 84 years, the franchise is going to heat up again. But the one pressing question for Cookie Jar is whether or not they plan on bringing back Gizmo Man. You know, the guy who could pull any gadget out of his hair?
