Some billboards in L.A. could easily be mistaken for news alerts

Justified or not, Southern California has a reputation for being the serial-killer and all-around grisly-crime capital of the country. Where else do you have Helter Skelter hippies and Hillside Stranglers hanging out within a 50-mile radius? Bobby Kennedy delivered his last speech here, and it's where the Black Dahlia got her knife-cut Joker's grin. It's where O.J. and Phil Spector can catch a wave while their juries are deliberating. Even our chimpanzees seem to have a taste for theatrical gore.
   An out-of-home campaign for premium movie channel Cinelatino will fit right in. Developed by Zubi Advertising Services of Miami, the creative features sensational, shocking headlines like "Madre muerta vive con su hija" ("Dead mother lives with her daughter") and "Travesti mata a sacerdote violador" ("Transvestite kills rapist priest"). Just another day in L.A.? Thankfully, the ads refer to the plots of Pedro Almodovar's award-winning films Volver and La mala educación.
  The media will include digital billboards, mall displays and bus shelters. The campaign launches Feb. 2.
