Soon, you will base your entire life around 'The Biggest Loser'
Posted on Thu Mar 19 2009Sweatin' to the Oldies is so two decades ago, which is just how the folks in the senior-center water-aerobics classes like it. For the rest of us, it's time for some new blood in the exercise-soundtrack business, and the multi-tentacled Biggest Loser franchise is providing it with its workout mixes, including the new Biggest Loser Sports Anthems. What better motivation to tear up that treadmill than stadium mainstays like "Everybody Dance Now," "Mony, Mony" and the ever-popular Queen foot-stomper "We Will Rock You?"
It's an hour's worth of heart-pumping music that serves as your own personal trainer, without the Jillian Michaels-style taunting to suck in that gut and drop for 50 pushups. The compilation, from NBC Universal's Consumer Products Group, Reveille Productions and Power Music, already leaped into the top five on the iTunes dance chart. Previous titles in this series, like modern rock and top 40, have also become iTunes hits.
The Biggest Loser, a workhorse on NBC's otherwise faltering prime-time schedule, has busted its TV seams and grown into a $50 million licensing program, with best-selling books, DVDs, ready-made meals, fitness equipment and kitchen appliances. Now, Journey, the Beastie Boys and Wang Chung join the party. But including Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy"? That seems like a tease for people who are trying to lose weight. Just saying.
