With Snuggies, you don't have to be a monk to look like one

Posted on Mon Jan 5 2009

The monks have gotten a lot of things right over the years: beer, pretzels, B&B liqueur. Apparently, their robes are pretty fashionable, too. If you watched any college-football bowl-game highlights this past week, you couldn't help but catch an ad for the Snuggie, the blanket with sleeves. "Blankets are OK, but they can slip and slide, plus your hands are trapped inside," says the product's marketing message. The infomercial that ran ad nauseum makes a good case for bundling up during the winter months, but it becomes laughable when it shows off the garment's colors: sage, royal blue and burgundy. The latter, in particular, makes the models look like they just escaped from a monastery. Snuggies even come with a free booklight for easier reading of The Da Vinci Code and The Name of the Rose.
