Iggy Pop lusting for Mutual Life in U.K. insurance ad campaign

Posted on Wed Jan 7 2009

Oh, Iggy Pop, must you morph into Ozzy Osbourne?
It was bad enough when you let those Royal Caribbean cruisers in their Speedos whoop it up to your gritty drug ditty "Lust for Life." Then you let FTD use "Wild Child" to sell pretty flowers. And then you let Nike use "Search and Destroy" to convey the joy and sorrow and projectile barfing of athletics. The hits kept on coming, but at least you were only selling your songs.
Now, you're selling yourself—prancing around like the Stepin Fetchit of the punk community in a new ad campaign for U.K. online insurance company SwiftCover.com. The work, by agency MWO, shows Pop embracing his "online life" and mumbling aloud about the last time he's seen his birth certificate. Tagline: "Get a life."
Sadly, Ron Asheton, guitarist for the Stooges, was found dead on Tuesday, which leads us to wonder past whether Iggy is selling out here—or buying in. Has he taken out a policy?
